How does search work?
You can enter any search term you want. The search will auto-suggest a list of keywords based on what you type, but you can also enter free text, or search by name.
piirus.ac.uk will then look for researchers who have:
- matching, or partially matching, keywords in their profile
- synonyms for those keywords in their profile (e.g. alternative spellings or acronyms)
- related keywords in their profile (e.g. ”Religious Architecture“ is related to “Churches”)
- matching, or partially matching text in their profile summary or research summary
- matching, or partially matching text in their name
Based on all of these, piirus.ac.uk will then display a list of matching researchers. Not finding what you want? Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
How can I combine multiple searches?
You can combine multiple searches in the following ways:
To search for researchers whose profiles contain either "Medical physics" or "Physics", just type the two terms, or use OR: "Medical physics" Physics or "Medical physics" OR Physics
To search for researchers whose profiles contain both search terms "Medical physics" and "Physics" use AND: "Medical physics" AND Physics
Use "+" before a word that must appear in a researcher’s profile along with another word that may appear. To search for researchers whose profiles contain "Semiconductors" and may contain "Physics" use the query: +Semiconductors Physics
To search for researchers whose profiles contain one search term "Social history" but not another "Germany" use NOT: "Social history" NOT Germany
You can use brackets to carry out more complex searches. To search for researchers whose profiles contain the search term 'History' and either "America" or "USA" use the query: (America OR USA) AND History
